1900-1920 Overview

The 20th century began with victory for Bury over Southampton. The following year, Spurs Sandy brown went into the record books as he scored in both the FA Cup final and the replay at Bolton and he became the first player to score in every round of the cup. His total of 15 goals in the FA Cup still stands as a record. Sheffield United won the following year 2-1 over Southampton. In 1903, Bury broke the record books with a 6-0 thumping of Derby, to this day that stands as the largest FA Cup final victory. Aston Villa won their fourth FA Cup in 1905 with victory over Newcastle. Sheffield Wednesday tasted their first FA Cup success in 1907 with a 2-1 victory, revenge on their 4-3 defeat in the FA Cup the previous season. Newcastle won their first FA Cup in 1910 with a 2-0 win over Barnsley as Albert shepherd scored twice on the day. Newcastle lost the following season at the hands of Bradford City. After the disappointment of losing to Newcastle in 1910, Barnsley avenged their defeat with a 1-0 victory over West Brom. The final of 1915 was between Chelsea and Sheffield United, the match took place at Old Trafford. The blades beat Chelsea 3-0 on a cold day. The 1920 final between Aston Villa and Huddersfield was a great affair, Huddersfield went into the match, having only lost three times out of 35 matches. Aston Villa won the match 1-0.

Burnley 1-0 Liverpool
1914 FA Cup final

The King attended this FA cup final encounter at Crystal Palace between Liverpool and Burnley in what was a final between two Lancashire sides. Burnley finished off the match defeating Liverpool 1-0. The goal came from a throw in near the corner flag. As the ball came over, Freenman, near the penalty spot, smashed the ball towards the goal. It flashed in to the net before the goal keeper could move.
