FA Cup Match: Coventry 3-2 Tottenham (FA Cup Final)
Date Played: 16th May 1987

The match started off at a frantic pace and just after two minutes, Chris waddle picked up a clearance on the right and crossed near the post. Clive Allen firmly headed the ball past Steve Ogrizovic to put Spurs 1-0 in front. Only minutes later, Dave Bennet went round Ray Clemence and tucked the ball into an empty net to level the proceedings. With few minutes of the first half remaining, Glenn Hoddle took a free kick finding Richard Gough who flicked the ball into the goalmouth. Both Mabbutt and Kilcline went for the ball together and it went into a gaping net. Twenty minutes into the second half, Houchens diving header provided Coventry with an equalizer. With the scores now level, Coventry now started to pile on all the pressure and Clemence had to make a string of fine saves and make the game go into extra time. Seven minutes into extra time, Lloyd McGrath crossed the ball towards the Spurs goal from outside the area. Mabbutt tried to intercept, however the ball hit his left knee and flew over Ray Clemences head to make it 3-2.

FA Cup Match: Oldham 3-3 Manchester United (FA Cup Semi Final)
Date Played: May 1990

The small industrial town of Oldham Athletic was gripped by football fever. Managed by Joe Royle, the Lactics had just reached the league cup final and were also challenging for promotion. Manchester United was in the middle of a poor season and victory was essential for Alex Ferguson’s men as the winner enters the final.
Oldham started the better and just after five minutes, Bryan Robson failed to clear a cross from Rick Holden and the ball bounced off Jim Leighton’s chest for Earl Barrett to put Oldham in front. Near the half hour mark, Robson surged onto a pass from Neil Webb and slotted home past Hallworth’s left hand. Chances came and went for both teams and on the 70th minute, Danny Wallace replaced the tired Bryan Robson. Immediately after, Wallace miscued a cross with his first touch of the ball and the ball rebounded off the top of Neil Webb’s head and into the net. Oldham instantly replied as Ian Marshall smashed a volley into the back of the net. During extra time, Wallace was a handful for the Oldham defence and when Brian McClair’s delightful through ball sprung Oldham’s offside trap, Wallace made no mistake to give United the lead. However the drama was not over as Oldham substitute, Roger Palmer was on hand to force a replay after great work from Milligan had carved an opening down the left flank for Ian Marshall.

Manchester United 3-3 Crystal Palace
FA Cup Final - 1990

United eventually won the 1990 FA Cup final, however here is how they arrived to the replay. After 20 minutes of play, Gary O’Reilly scores the opening vital goal for Palace as he beats both Steve Bruce and Jim Leighton to make it 1-0 to Palace. With only 10 minutes of the half remaining, Danny Wallace played the ball out to Brain McClair on the right; his first time centre to the far post is headed down by Bryan Robson. Palace then went on to concede as unlucky goal, as Neil Webb slid a fine pass to Mark Hughes who scored and gave United a 2-1 lead. With only 17 minutes remaining, Ian Wright scored one of the greatest FA Cup goals of all time to sail Palace back on level terms. Immediately into extra time, John Solako crossed a fine ball to Ian Wright who volleyed Crystal Palace back into the lead. However with character, united came back, and with seven minutes remaining, Danny Wallace slipped a neat ball through to Hughes who ran left to right into the penalty area, Hughes smashed the ball into the back of the net, to force the final to a replay, which United won 1-0.
